Results of a recent report by WalletHub, an online personal finance resource launched in 2013 reveal the top 20 cities where you're most likely to land a great new gig. To narrow down the list, researchers compared the nation's most populous cities, ranking them based on 17 various metrics including the number of job opportunities, employment growth and monthly median salary. Safety, recreational opportunities, affordable housing and family-friendliness also were factors. And the winners, along with the median annual income and percentage employment growth over the past year, are:
- Plano, Texas: Median annual income, $83,697; employment growth, 3.51 percent
- Overland Park, Kansas: Median annual income, $72,231; employment growth, 0.77 percent
- Austin, Texas: Median annual income, $58,368; employment growth, 0.80 percent
- Irving, Texas: Median annual income, $52,275; employment growth, 1.03 percent
- Salt Lake City, Utah: Median annual income, $48,552; employment growth, -1.21 percent
- Des Moines, Iowa: Median annual income, $50,467; employment growth, 4.38 percent
- Irvine, California: Median annual income, $62,372; employment growth, 1.81 percent
- Madison, Wisconsin: Median annual income, $50,405; employment growth, 3.18 percent
- Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Median annual income, $44,965; employment growth, -0.84 percent
- Omaha, Nebraska: Median annual income, $55,211; employment growth, -1.48 percent
- Boise, Idaho: Median annual income, $51,963; employment growth, 4.57 percent
- Denver, Colorado: Median annual income, $48,186; employment growth, 1.68 percent
